FARM CREDIT FOUNDATION FOR AGRICULTURAL ADVANCEMENT DONATES TO PENNSYLVANIA AG EDUCATION PROGRAMS

11/6/2018

The Farm Credit Foundation for Agricultural Advancement donated $10,000 to the Pennsylvania Friends of Ag Foundation Ag Lab and $5,000 to the Pennsylvania Farm Show Calving Corner.

Westminster, MD – The Farm Credit Foundation for Agricultural Advancement donated $10,000 to the Pennsylvania Friends of Agriculture Foundation’s Mobile Ag Ed Science Lab and $5,000 to the Pennsylvania Farm Show Calving Corner in 2018.

“The Foundation is so inspired by the Pennsylvania Friends of Ag Foundation’s Ag Lab and the PA Farm Show Calving Corner, says Dale Hershey, Chairman of the Farm Credit Foundation for Agricultural Advancement. “We are proud to be able to support such important organizations in Pennsylvania for the future of agriculture.”

The Pennsylvania Friends of Agriculture Foundation was created in 1986 when a group of forward-thinking farmers and business leaders recognized the need to identify agricultural issues before they became problems. The Foundation’s mission was and is the preservation and promotion of agriculture – the largest of the Commonwealth’s industries. The Mobile Ag Ed Science Lab is complete with all supplies and a certified teacher, and travels to a different elementary or middle school in Pennsylvania each week. The lab is designed to target youth in kindergarten through eighth grade.

The Pennsylvania Farm Show Calving Corner is a live dairy cow birthing center where guests can watch 16 calves begin their lives. Attendees also learn more about how Pennsylvania’s dairy farmers work hard every day to responsibly care for their animals and be conscientious stewards of the land and environment.

“Both of these programs provide valuable educational experiences to not only Pennsylvania’s youth, but to the general public,” says Hershey. “We’re honored to assist in helping them teach others about the important role agriculture plays in our lives.”

Staying true to its mission, the Farm Credit Foundation for Agricultural Advancement has donated more than $42,000 in 2018 to agriculture education programs in MidAtlantic Farm Credit’s footprint. In addition to these donations, the Foundation also gives away ten $10,000 scholarships to students studying agriculture each year.
