The Farm Credit Foundation for Agricultural Advancement donated $10,000 to the Delaware Farm Bureau Foundation’s Mobile Ag Lab.

Westminster, MD – The Farm Credit Foundation for Agricultural Advancement donated $10,000 to the Delaware Farm Bureau Foundation’s (DFBF) Mobile Ag Lab to support the organization’s mission to teach children about farming, healthy eating and agriculture as a way of life.

“The Delaware Farm Bureau Foundation’s Ag Lab does such a great job educating students about their future possibilities in this industry,” says Dale Hershey, Chairman of the Farm Credit Foundation for Agricultural Advancement. “We are proud to be able to provide this support to such an important organization and hope our donation will allow the Ag Lab to continue teaching these skills.”

Launched in 2014 with a generous donation of the trailer from Delaware Department of Agriculture, the Ag Lab became Delaware Farm Bureau Foundation’s “mobile classroom” visiting schools and summer camps in Delaware. Children ages five through 12 are taught through an interactive lesson about where their food comes from, how it’s made and what different careers are available. In 2017, DFB began a pilot program to enter elementary schools and teach fourth graders about farming and healthy eating. The pilot program became a reality in 2018 when the Ag Lab began a full time program.

“We truly appreciate the support from MidAtlantic Farm Credit,” says Laura Simpson, Manager of the Delaware Farm Bureau Foundation. “This level of support is wonderful to our farmers here in Delaware. The fact that Farm Credit wants to help us continue teaching elementary school children the importance of eating healthy and the careers available in farming is terrific.”

Staying true to its mission, the Farm Credit Foundation for Agricultural Advancement has donated more than $42,000 in 2018 to agriculture education programs in MidAtlantic Farm Credit’s footprint. In addition to these donations, the Foundation also gives away ten $10,000 scholarships to students studying agriculture each year.

The non-profit Foundation was established in 2015 and is funded by participating association MidAtlantic Farm Credit. For more information about the Foundation and its scholarship programs, please visit fcfoundationforag.org.
